Quinn: Julio Jones in ‘strengthening phase’ after foot surgery

Falcons coach Dan Quinn gave an injury update on All-Pro wide receiver Julio Jones when meeting with reporters at the owners’ meeting in Arizona on Wednesday.

Jones told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week that his recovery from foot surgery was progressing.

“Julio is doing good,” Quinn said. “He had surgery on his foot. That part is coming along really well, the strengthening of his toe and foot. Like most surgeries, the first part is the healing and then comes the strengthening. He’s starting to get into the strengthening phase.”

Quinn also gave an update on cornerback Desmond Trufant (torn pectoral), defensive end Adrian Clayborn (torn bicep) and defensive lineman Derrick Shelby (torn Achilles).

He said the team will hold Trufant out until training camp. Clayborn is doing well and that Shelby has been hitting the weights.

“He’s actually changed his body,” Quinn said. “He went with the approach that I can’t wait to get better. He’s battling. He looks different as a guy walking around. You can see the size and strength. He looks great.

“All of them are at different phases of their rehab, but we anticipate them all being fully ready to go for the season.”
