Obama’s “high approval ratings” dubious

In a direct quote from the story (“Obama works hard to cement legacy,” News, Jan. 1), “[Neera] Tanden said Obama’s actions are bolstered by approval ratings significantly higher than Trump’s, a historical oddity.”

Oh, I see. Are these supposedly high approval ratings coming from the same pollsters who virtually guaranteed us that Queen Hillary would win the presidential election, and that the Dems would flip the Senate and possibly the House too?

Since pollsters now have the tattered appearance of a squirrel which has been dispatched at close range by buckshot, are we to really believe Obama’s “high approval ratings”?

“Voters” did not choose Trump

We have all seen it numerous times in the letters to the AJC and other places of public comment since the election and yet again on Jan. 5, an AJC letter-writer makes the statement along the lines, “The voters have chosen…..” In explaining his support of Donald Trump and complaining about those who are not so enthusiastic. Actually, the “voters” did not chose Mr. Trump. He was chosen by the Electoral College as instructed by the United States Constitution. Mr. Trump was not the choice of the “voters.” It is a fact that more than 54 percent of the “voters” chose someone other than Mr. Trump. It is a fact that 2.9 million more of them voted for his main opponent than for him. That being said, Mr. Trump has been constitutionally and lawfully “selected” to be our president and we all need to offer him our support to the extent our individual consciences allow, but emphatically he was not the choice of the “voters.” Hopefully, Mr. Trump and his administration will remain constantly aware of the inconvenient facts of the last election and, hopefully, the “voters” will remain constantly vigilant of President Trump’s acts.
