Will we be remembered for negligence or foresight?

In a hundred years, our descendants will not hold us accountable for the kind of car we drove, our vote for governor or our favorite NFL team. But, if at that time, the sea has inundated coastal cities, millions have been displaced, and our national security is at risk, our purposeful negligence will be on display. The vast majority of scientists predict all of these consequences. Look at the two choices: If we do something now to embrace new energy sources, and yet we are wrong, at the very least we will have a cleaner world and enduring jobs in a technology-based industry. If we do nothing, we jeopardize the future of our great-grandchildren and our nation’s place in that future. For all the talk about legacy from politicians (many of them climate deniers), a future is now being written that will severely question our present choices.

Bad parents can’t accept responsibility

I regularly read stories of young teenagers stealing cars and going on high-speed joy rides.

Oftentimes, this leads to automobile crashes and death. Yet, the parents of these young thieves never seem to accept responsibility for their child’s actions. Rather, they make excuses like, the system failed them. Parents, it’s not the public’s responsibility to raise your children. Children are the sole responsibility of the parents who brought them into this world. No one else’s!

So, if you don’t have the necessary resources to raise a child, then, don’t have children. Neglected children deserve better, and society deserves better. And irresponsible, clueless individuals having children will only exacerbate the problem.

In a recent AJC story, the mother of one such juvenile said, They (the courts) keep slapping them on the hand! As if she had no responsibility in the matter whatsoever! Talk about clueless.
