One of the first multi-lane roundabouts to be constructed on a state route in Georgia is now fully operational at Houze and Hembree roads in Roswell, city officials announced.

The Georgia Department of Transportation transformed what had been a standard, signalized intersection into a two-lane roundabout “to improve safety and relieve congestion,” Roswell officials said.

A multi-use trail on the south side of Hembree, to connect with an existing trail near Upper Hembree Road, also is part of the project.

The project cost about $4.4 million and was funded by GDOT. Roswell contributed $353,500 toward preliminary engineering, design and right-of-way acquisition.
