Meteorologist Katie Walls has your Sunday morning weather forecast.

ATLANTA FORECAST

Sunday: High: 88

Sunday night: Low: 73

Monday: High: 88

The rain pattern Sunday in metro Atlanta should be similar to that of recent days, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Sunday not only has a 60 percent chance of rain, but the showers should be isolated and heavy in some cases, meteorologist Katie Walls said.

“The showers and storms that do develop will sit and be stationary,” she said, “producing a heavy amount of rainfall in a short period of time.”

This could lead to flash flooding in some areas, according to Walls.

That chance of rain lasts until Wednesday, which should drop to 30 percent as drier air begins to move in, Walls said.

Sunday’s rain should be primarily in the afternoon, and extra humidity from the storms will keep the heat index in the low 90s.

The forecast high is 88 degrees, slightly below average for the date. Monday also should see a high of 88.

Sunday should be a busy day on the roads as people head to events at the Georgia World Congress Center, Centennial Olympic Park,  Mercedes-Benz Stadium and SunTrust Park. However, construction projects crippled Cobb County’s interstates Saturday, and the Georgia Department of Transportation has more planned for Sunday.

GDOT has closed two left lanes on Spring Street between Peachtree Street and 17th Street for construction until Monday, which has created a lot of congestion in Midtown, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Atlanta United takes on the Seattle Sounders at 2 p.m. in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which should only contribute to downtown traffic woes.

The Georgia World Congress Center will continue to host Comic Con, and fans planning to attend can click here to reserve parking. Also, the inaugural SEC Football Kickoff Summerfest is planned at nearby Centennial Olympic Park.

The Braves play the Arizona Diamondbacks at 1:35 p.m. at SunTrust Park, which could increase Cobb County’s traffic as well.

The five-day weather forecast for metro Atlanta shows rain chances at 60 percent through Tuesday.
