Hours after showers drenched much of metro Atlanta, the skies are clear and it’s expected to stay dry, Channel 2 Action News meteorologists said Monday.

Earlier, a flood warning was issued in Gwinnett County for Pew Creek near Lawrenceville, according to the National Weather Service. The flood state is 11 feet, and the water level was at 11.7 feet and cresting when the warning was issued about 1:30 p.m. That flood warning and a warning issued for Fulton County don’t expire until Thursday afternoon.

But now that the rain is moving on, other big changes are in the forecast.

Temperatures are dropping and will fall into the 50s overnight, Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said. By midnight, the metro area will hit 57 degrees.

“We’re not going to notice an immediate drop in temperatures,” Nitz said. “But it’s going to be gradual through late afternoon into the evening hours.”

Tuesday morning is expected to start off in the low 50s.

And that’s not all.

The “coldest air of the fall season arrives” by the middle of the week, Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

Monday’s low of 66 degrees is expected to be Tuesday’s high. After that, lows of 43 degrees are in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, Channel 2 reported.

In the meantime, Atlanta surpassed the expected high by reaching 72 degrees. Currently, it is 59 degrees in Atlanta.
