WEATHER-TRAFFIC UPDATE: Spotty showers likely; fog could return

A dense fog advisory expired at 10 a.m. Saturday for metro Atlanta, but those conditions may return before the weekend is over.

There could be “areas of fog for Sunday morning,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Katie Walls said Saturday morning.

As for the rest of Saturday, “on and off rain showers” are expected throughout the day, Walls said, with a 40 percent chance of rain.

This means roads might be a little slick, and the roads to Mercedes-Benz Stadium should be especially well-traveled around noon Saturday when the Celebration Bowl kicks off.

North Carolina A&T, champions of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, will take on Alcorn State, champions of the Southwest Athletic Conference.

Between DeKalb and Habersham counties, there will be a more somber reason for delays. Gainesville police said a procession that started at 10 a.m. was to take slain DeKalb County Officer Edgar Isidro Flores northbound along I-985 to his home in Habersham County.

Saturday should be the last day of rain for awhile, as the forecast clears up some Sunday (20 percent chance) through the middle of next week.

However, Channel 2 Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns warned Atlantans to not get too used to dry weather, since more wet weather is in the works later in December.

The record amount of rain for Atlanta is 71 inches in a year, and we’re closing in on 63 inches of rain this year, Burns said.

“And we’re not done. We might possibly get close to that record,” Burns said.
