It was sunny all day, but the sunshine didn’t have a major impact on temperatures Wednesday.

Currently, it’s 46 degrees in Atlanta, but earlier the city reached a high of 51.

The good news: It passed the expected high of 50. The bad news: That’s 13 degrees below the average high for this time of year.

And temps are expected to plunge.

That’s why Atlanta plans to reopen an emergency warming center at the Old Adamsville Recreation Center at 3404 Delmar Lane at 6 p.m. It will remain open until 10:30 a.m. Thursday, shortly after a freeze warning expires.

During the warning, which is set to last from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday, subfreezing conditions will be “highly likely” across metro Atlanta and other parts of North Georgia, the National Weather Service said.

Relief could come later Thursday in the form of a warming trend, Nitz said.

Highs are forecast to hit 65 Thursday and 70 Friday.
