Just as it was starting to feel like spring, temperatures are expected to dip into the 60s Thursday.

“A cold front is on the way to Georgia while high pressure moves to the Atlantic,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said. “It will create a strong gradient with (southwest) winds up to 20-25 mph at times.”

The forecast high is 65 degrees Thursday, when there is a 20 percent chance of rain. Breezy conditions are also expected.

“After a high in the low 80s (Wednesday), our temperatures will run several degrees cooler than average for the next week to two weeks,” Minton said.

Atlanta reached a high of 83 degrees, which is 10 degrees higher than the average for this time of year, Channel 2 reported. Currently, the temperature is 74.

Wednesday was also the warmest Atlanta has been since Oct. 15.

The high temps also took pollen back into the “extremely high” range. The count increased from 1,000 particles per cubic meter of air Tuesday to 1,648 Wednesday, according to Atlanta Allergy and Asthma.

Pollen levels could swing in the other direction, however, as temperatures drop later this week.
