A light drizzle continues in many areas across a foggy metro Atlanta as the evening commute hits full swing.

While the pavement remains slick, most delays are due to volume, not wrecks, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

There are still some crashes adding to those volume delays, such as a right lane of I-285 North being blocked near Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County, according to the Traffic Center.

Another crash on I-85 South near the Southside Perimeter blocks the second left lane, increasing delays, the Traffic Center reported.

Thankfully, the light rain is all North Georgia can expect tonight, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“Spotty light showers will persist through the afternoon,” Channel 2 meteorologist Katie Walls said. “No storms are expected.”

A large area of low pressure is the rainmaker Friday, sending plenty of moisture over the state, Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said. Some areas are getting rain, and others are getting drizzle and fog, but nothing is too heavy. Stronger showers continue to make their way north, Minton said.

“We’re not looking at any big storms for today,” she said. “Those are going to be confined to Middle Georgia and the west central part of our state, and South Georgia, too.”

Temperatures should remain about average Friday with highs in the low to mid-50s in metro Atlanta, according to Channel 2. It’s 51 degrees in Atlanta as of 5 p.m.

Minton said gusty winds will stick around through the evening, she said.

“You’ll get this patchy, light rain that’s continuing to plague the area through the afternoon and the evening time, so heading home you're still going to have that drizzle, maybe some low-hanging clouds,” she said. “That is going to lead to some low visibility. I want you to be careful as you are out and about today.”

An inch to an inch-and-a-half of rain is expected Friday and Saturday, according to Channel 2. By Saturday morning, the showers will begin to wind down, Minton said.

“As we get into the latter part of the day, into lunchtime, we're starting to see some breaks in those clouds,” she said.

The clouds are expected to stick around longer than the rain Saturday before clearing out for Sunday, which Minton said is “looking grand.” The projected high for Sunday is 55 degrees.

It should remain dry for a few days after that, with rain returning to the forecast on Thursday, according to Channel 2.
