Miller’s Bread Basket

Don’t let the buses parked out front dissuade you from entering this popular Amish/Mennonite restaurant serving homemade fare on a buffet line; the group tours — which come from as far away as Myrtle Beach — have their own dining room. The fresh-baked bread helps this place in sleepy Blackville stand out. Under $10.

Bourbon

This is one of the top spots along vibrant Main Street in downtown Columbia. It serves gourmet Creole-Cajun specialties. As you might guess by the name, there’s also an extensive selection of fine whiskey. Dinner entrees start at $21, small plates and sharing snacks at $6.

The Red Shed

This roadside produce-stand-turned-diner is a slice of authentic Americana outside of Aiken in tiny Graniteville serving Southern staples. Under $10.

Many arrive by boat to this classy seafood restaurant along the historic Beaufort waterfront. Chef Brian Waters was recently selected as Ambassador of the Lowcountry as part of the South Carolina Chef Ambassador Program, which aims to increase awareness of unique destinations in the state through its foodways. Small plates start at $13, chef specialties at $27.

Soby’s
