Benny Snell is confident he’s the best running back going into the 2018 season.

With former Georgia Bulldogs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel off to the NFL, there’s room for a new running back to make waves in the SEC. After leading the team with 1,333 rushing yards as a sophomore, Kentucky’s Benny Snell might be the next back to emerge as a star.

“If you’re a good player, you’ll forever be good. (From) my freshman year to now, I feel like I’m the best I’ve ever been. My time is now,” he said before declaring himself the current “best back in the SEC.”

Snell may be confident he’s the top player now, but the competition for the title is tough. Damien Harris returned to Alabama for his senior season while Georgia boasts D’Andre Swift and Zamir White. Florida also returns a backfield that contributed to the 31st consecutive win over the Wildcats last season.

For Kentucky to climb the ranks in the SEC East, they’ll have to get through the Bulldogs and Gators. It’s a hump that Snell said he and his teammates want to conquer.

“We want to get over that very bad. We want to win games,” he said of the desire to take down division rivals. “We’re going to start with Central Michigan, and then we’re going to work our way there.”

The Wildcats will need to work fast if they want to break the longest winning streak in college football, as they visit Florida in Week 2.
