Kennesaw State University announced Monday that football coach Brian Bohannon’s contract has been extended through the 2023 season.

In this third season as coach, Bohannon led the Owls to a 12-2 record, a Big South championship and the FCS quarterfinals last year.

“I want to thank our administration, Milton Overton and the Board of Regents for their continued commitment to myself, our coaching staff and Kennesaw State football,” Bohannon said in a statement. “I’m truly excited about the future of our program and I look forward to continuing to lead it while being an ambassador for Kennesaw State University.”

Bohannon was named the first football coach at Kennesaw State in 2013 after spending 15 years as an assistant coach under Paul Johnson at Georgia Southern, Navy and Georgia Tech.

In the football program’s three seasons, Bohannon has led his program to a 26-10 record, the second-best record among FCS start-up programs in the Division I history. Since 2008, Old Dominion is the only start-up program with more wins in its firsts three seasons.

“What Coach Bohannon has accomplished in such a short amount of time is incredible,” Kennesaw State athletic director Milton Overton said in a statement. “He is a special leader, great family man and true ambassador for Kennesaw State University. Coach Bohannon strives tirelessly to encourage his student-athletes to be men of character and challenges them to be champions in the classroom, on the field, in the community and in life. Owl Nation is excited that he is our coach and I look forward to seeing KSU Football reach new heights in the years to come.”
