Georgia State turnovers costly in loss to Arkansas State

Georgia State’s two first-half turnovers proved costly in a 51-35 loss to Arkansas State on Thursday night.

Panthers quarterback Dan Ellington fumbled early in the second quarter, setting up an Arkansas State touchdown. On Georgia State’s next drive, running back Tra Barnett lost the ball, and Arkansas State linebacker Tajhea Chambers scooped up the fumble and scored. Arkansas State (4-3, 1-2 in Sun Belt) led 34-7 at halftime.

Ellington passed for 250 yards and three touchdowns before exiting the game in the fourth quarter after a hard hit. The starter was helped off the field and did not return.

Aaron Winchester had a TD pass in the fourth quarter in relief of Ellington.

Georgia State returns home to host Coastal Carolina on Oct. 27.
