Georgia’s Andrew Thomas misses practice with ankle sprain

Georgia coach Kirby Smart announced Monday that starting left tackle Andrew Thomas will miss practice with an ankle sprain.

Thomas, a sophomore from Lithonia who played at Pace Academy, has been doing some work on the treadmill to work through the injury, but is day-to-day, according to Smart.

“Hopefully, he’ll be back for the game, but that’s still not known,” Smart said. “We’ll see how he does (Tuesday).”

Freshman offensive tackle Cade Mays replaced Thomas after the starting left tackle was injured during Saturday’s win over South Carolina.

Smart said the biggest thing he noticed about Mays on Saturday was his ability to jump in on short notice and keep up with  South Carolina’s defensive line.

Georgia plays Middle Tennessee at 7:15 p.m. Saturday at Sanford Stadium.
