INDIANAPOLIS – Duke punter Will Monday, who played at Flowery Branch High, hopes to impress NFL teams at the scouting combine.
Here are five quick questions with Monday, who was in the media room on Wednesday:
Q: What are some the things you want establish here at the combine?
A: Really just get in front of the coaches and just show them who I am as a person. I went to Duke. I consider myself to a smart guy. I think it's important to harp on that. Also, just talk about my career and consistency over the past four years. Come out here tomorrow, when we get a chance to punt, and show what I can do.
Q: What was it like being a part of the turnaround at Duke?
A: It was awesome. That's why my class signed there, to be a part of that. We brought into what coach (David) Cutcliffe was saying and what he was building.
Q: What advice did your former Duke teammate and Denver running Juwan Thompson give you about the NFL?
A: Whenever you get that one opportunity, you have to make the most of it.
Q: Did you attend Falcons’ practices in Flowery Branch?
A: A lot of the guys were always around our program. They were always in the community. It was an interesting experience going to a high school with a pro facility nearby. Training camp was always open. I remember watching that program so closely just because they are a part of our community.
Q: Who do you pattern your punting style after?
A: For me, the big guy that I like to look at is Tim Masthay of Green Bay. He's a big, long guy. Lanky. Really good at directional punting. That's something that we worked on in college. Just to learn from him and watch him, look at his technique and see how he's done is a good thing. He's set many records in Green Bay.
