For the first time in 11 seasons, the Falcons will not hold the wildly successful ‘Friday Night Lights’ scrimmage during training camp, the team announced on Wednesday.

The Falcons, the defending NFC champions, will report for training camp on Wednesday, July 26.

The team has gone into the community for a scrimmage at local high schools since first holding the event during the Jim Mora regime at Grady High on August 8, 2006.

Last season’s event was held at Grayson High School. The event would move — mostly around Gwinnett and Hall Counties — to various high schools including Parkview, North Gwinnett, Brookwood, Gainesville and Flowery Branch High Schools.

The team cited the logistics of opening the new stadium as a reason for not holding the event this summer.

“We are moving hundreds of associates and two franchises into a new home this summer and that’s where our organizational focus is right now,” the team said in a statement released to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We’ll continue to support high school football in our new stadium and in the community in the years to come.”

While there won’t be a “Friday Night Lights” event, several of the practices will be open to the public.

The team will hold Military Appreciation Day on Sunday, August 6.
