Washington fans may have forgotten about the basketball team

It’s the opening night of the college basketball season. Excitement is in the air. Stands are packed with anticipation of their home teams opening up the year. Right? Well…not quite. For Washington fans, there was a choice to make: Football or basketball?

Thirty minutes prior to tipoff of the basketball team’s season-opener against Belmont, the Husky faithful seemed to have made their choice: It’s still football season.

It’s tough to blame Washington fans for showing up in sparse numbers. The Husky football team had a critical bout with Stanford, at Stanford, kicking off at the exact same time. While the Stanford game held massive implications concerning the Pac-12 North, the Pac-12 Championship, and a potential College Football Playoff berth, the Belmont game held the weight of precisely one game.

What that one game could do, however, is snap a nasty 13-game losing skid for the Huskies, who finished the 2016-17 year with 9 wins to 22 losses.

Still, a snapped losing streak or College Football Playoff?

It was an easy choice for Husky fans.

Why Jim Harbaugh will reach Big Ten title game before Scott Frost

Jim Harbaugh is trying to navigate Michigan through the toughest division in college football. Scott Frost turned up at Nebraska only to be handed one of the nastiest schedules put before any Power 5 program. Which begs the question: Who gets to their squad to the Big Ten Championship game first? Former Michigan and NFL...
