USC standouts Jordan McLaughlin, De’Anthony Melton named to preseason watch lists

Picked to finish second in the Pac-12 for the first time ever, USC enters the 2017-18 season with plenty of hype. That extends to its players, two of whom appear on preseason watch lists for some prestigious awards.

Senior Jordan McLaughlin has been recognized by the Bob Cousy Award, given to college basketball’s top point guard, while sophomore De’Anthony Melton is included on the watch list for the Jerry West Award given to the nation’s best shooting guard.

The 6’1” McLaughlin averaged 12.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and a team-best 5.5 assists per game last season for the Trojans. The 6’4” Melton averaged 8.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists as a freshman.

USC returns its top eight scorers from last year’s team, which won 26 games and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament as a No. 11 seed. Other Trojans who could end up being named to preseason watch lists include junior forwards Bennie Boatwright and Chimezie Metu.
