Report: Todd Stansbury met with Geoff Collins

Georgia Tech athletic director Todd Stansbury met with Temple coach Geoff Collins on Wednesday regarding the head-coaching job, according to a report from Owls Daily late Wednesday.

Both Stansbury and Collins were in New York for the College Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony, as Tech great Calvin Johnson and former Temple running back Paul Palmer were both inducted.

It followed an AJC report earlier Wednesday identifying Collins as a candidate for the position.

Collins is the second candidate reported to have interviewed, following Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator and Tech grad Ken Whisenhunt. Collins is in his second year at Temple and is in his first head-coaching position. Collins graduated from Rockdale County High and worked on the Tech staff in two separate stints, first as a graduate assistant and then tight ends coach 1999-2001 for coach George O’Leary and then as a director of player personnel in 2006 during coach Chan Gailey’s tenure.

Collins could be one of several candidates that Stansbury meets. He was intending to interview five or six candidates, a person familiar with the search told the AJC on Wednesday.
