Paul Johnson doubtful about Georgia Tech adding 12th game

Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson was pessimistic Tuesday regarding the team’s hopes for playing a 12th game to replace the Sept. 16 game against Central Florida that was cancelled because of Hurricane Irma.

“I don’t think it’s going to happen,” Johnson said at his weekly news conference. “We can’t seem to find anybody that seems to want to play.”

Last week, deputy athletic director Mark Rountree, who coordinates scheduling for the football team, said that Tech was considering only FBS opponents for the Dec. 2 date. Rountree said home and road games were both options.

Houston, Texas-San Antonio and Florida were among possibilities.

“As of now, we haven’t been able to find an opponent for that Dec. 2 game,” Rountree said Tuesday.

Tech is 5-4 with games remaining against Duke on Saturday in Durham, N.C., and against Georgia on Nov. 25. The Jackets need to win one more game to guarantee bowl eligibility.
