Two former Georgia Tech standout golfers, Anders Albertson and Roberto Castro, officially secured PGA Tour cards earlier this week on the basis of their play on the Web.com Tour.
The top 25 regular-season money winners each year earn cards to the big tour, and Albertson finished eighth ($210,455) and Castro placed 24th ($172,054). Albertson, a 2015 Tech graduate, made 16 cuts in 19 events and finished in the top 25 in 11 of them.
Albertson is second on the tour in putting average, third on the tour in birdie average and played 41 consecutive rounds under par.
Castro, a 2007 graduate and a six-year veteran of the PGA Tour, regained his tour card by finishing. A 33-year-old married father of two, Castro played only 14 of the 23 regular-season events, but made 13 cuts and finished in the top 25 seven times and he top 10 five times.
Castro and Albertson are now competing in the four-event tour final.
They’ll be two of seven former Yellow Jackets who will be on tour next season. The other five are Stewart Cink, Chesson Hadley, Matt Kuchar, Ollie Schniederjans and Richy Werenski. Remarkably, Schniederjans, Werenski and Albertson were all teammates at Tech for coach Bruce Heppler.
