Loyola bus gets turned around on way to Sweet 16 practice

Loyola got a good taste of Atlanta on Wednesday morning before its practice at Philips Arena in advance of its Sweet 16 matchup against Nevada – the team’s commute took much longer than expected.

Leaving the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta – less than a mile from Philips – the team took 35-40 minutes to arrive, Ramblers coach Porter Moser said.

The problems started when the team didn’t have a police escort and, Moser said, “no one knew how to get here.”

The bus reached the arena, but then the driver couldn’t find the loading dock where the team was supposed to be dropped off, and kept circling around the arena. Moser conceded that his team handled the adventure better than he did.

“I guess my immaturity came out,” he said.

Moser did make it to practice, although the start was delayed.

“I told our guys, it’s our first thing to overcome, and it’s like getting a couple turnovers early,” he said. “You’ve got to put it behind you and overcome.”

Loyola plays Nevada at 7 p.m. Thursday.
