ATHENS — Georgia is hoping to get one defensive lineman back this week. Another one will be out at least one more week.
Freshman David Marshall is “expected” to be back, Smart said Monday, after missing the Tennessee game with a concussion. Marshall had started the previous week at Ole Miss after playing well in the first three games.
“That’s a guy who’s been helping us, so we’re hoping he’ll be back,” Smart said.
But Jonathan Ledbetter, the sophomore and projected starter, will miss a sixth straight game because of suspension. Smart confirmed the news, without elaborating, as he has each week this season when asked about Ledbetter’s status.
It might be the last week Ledbetter is out. UGA’s policy on two alcohol-related arrests is a six-game suspension for football players. Ledbetter did have two this offseason, although the first one was dismissed.
Ledbetter had emerged this spring as a first-teamer at defensive end.
