Georgia Tech associate athletic director Marvin Lewis was named to a list of college athletics administrators believed to be ready to take the next step and become athletic directors. Lewis, a captain of the Tech basketball team that reached the 2004 NCAA championship game, has served as Tech’s chief financial officer since 2014.

Lewis was one of 13 administrators named to the CollegeAD NextUp list, which was assembled by a panel of athletic directors.

“Marvin is a committed and passionate young professional who has successfully transferred the leadership skills developed as a student-athlete to being a leader in athletic administration and a valuable member of my executive team,” Tech athletic director Todd Stansbury said in a statement. “As our CFO, his counsel, business acumen, and judgment are invaluable as we navigate the challenging landscape of intercollegiate athletics with innovative solutions. I can think of no one more deserving of the NextUp recognition.”

Lewis came back to Tech after working in the athletic departments at Georgia State and Maryland. He had also previously worked for a public accounting firm in Atlanta 2004-07.

Lewis was a four-year starter for the Jackets and a two-year captain.

Another one of the 13 is Clemson deputy director of athletics Graham Neff, who graduated from Tech in 2006 with a civil engineering degree. Neff, in fact, was the head manager of the Final Four team that Lewis captained. He later earned his MBA from Tech, worked in the athletic department for then-AD Dan Radakovich and has been at Clemson since 2013, again working for Radakovich.
