Georgia Tech’s Christopher Eubanks into NCAA quarters

Georgia Tech junior Christopher Eubanks fairly breezed into the quarterfinal round at the NCAA singles championships in Athens Friday. Eubanks, seeded fifth in the tournament, took care of Texas’ Yuya Ito 6-3, 6-0 to advance.

He is the first Tech player to reach the NCAA singles quarters since Bryan Shelton, the former Tech women’s coach now at Florida, made it that far in 1988. Shelton was eliminated in that round.

Eubanks will play Virginia’s Thai-Son Kwiatkowski Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Eubanks is the second-highest seed remaining in the draw. When the two played in the Tech-UVA match April 13 in Charlottesville, Kwiatkowski won by a narrow margin – 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (8-6). Virginia won the team championship last week
