Georgia football podcast: Anticipation builds for major UGA recruiting target’s commitment decision

Beginning of the show: 5-star linebacker Owen Pappoe — a major Georgia recruiting target — announced on Twitter he’d reveal his commitment  May 5 . I preview Pappoe’s decision on today’s show, and explain why he’d be a significant addition to UGA’s 2019 class.

10-minute mark: UGA coach Kirby Smart explained on National Signing Day that he likes recruits that participated in multiple sports and won state championships. That means Smart likely has even more to appreciate about the top defensive tackle in the state of Georgia for 2019 — Travon Walker, who was a part of an undefeated Upson-Lee team that just claimed a state basketball championship last weekend. I’ll talk more on today’s show about why Walker is a coveted prospect.

15-minute mark: DawgNation recruiting insider Jeff Sentell joins the show. Some of the topics covered include:

  • Thoughts on Owen Pappoe’s upcoming announcement
  • UGA recruiting target Travon Walker winning basketball state championship
  • 5-star cornerback Tyson Campbell posting impressive sprint times
  • UGA offering 3 defensive backs from North Gwinnett
  • Jake Fromm polishing quarterback skills during spring break

30-minute mark: I take a look at some other SEC headlines, including offensive lineman Calvin Anderson choosing Texas over Auburn, Tennessee adding graduate transfer running back Madre London from Michigan State, South Carolina picking up graduate transfer safety J.T. Ibe, and Ole Miss reportedly close to hiring MTSU basketball coach Kermit Davis.

End of show: I update the Gator Hater Countdown and invite the audience to check out the  DawgNation Daily Double, which features extended coverage of UGA in the SEC Tournament.
