Georgia Tech guard Curtis Haywood will not play for the remainder of the season because of a stress reaction in his right leg, according to the team. The decision was made Wednesday before a home game against Syracuse. Haywood missed six games in December and early January with a shin injury and then played the past seven games off the bench.
It’s a considerable loss for the Yellow Jackets, considering the short rotation that coach Josh Pastner has employed since the start of ACC play, relying almost exclusively on seven players including Haywood. The freshman had earned a spot in the starting lineup before the injury, starting seven games. For the season, he averaged 5.3 points per game with 2.9 rebounds. He has the team’s best assist/turnover ratio at 35/17.
Haywood had been one of the team’s more dangerous 3-point pointers, although he was 4-for-20 in six ACC games. Haywood was on the bench dressed in a warm-up suit during the Jackets’ game against the Orange.
