DT T.K. Chimedza ‘a real good get’ for Georgia Tech

Jackets welcome new signeesMore on the new Yellow Jackets

In recruiting, defensive tackle might be the biggest challenge for Georgia Tech coaches as any position, so they are likely quite happy with T.K. Chimedza, a 6-foot-3, 300-pound prospect who will be enrolling in January from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

Sold by coaches on the value of a Tech degree, Chimedza turned down Georgia, Florida State, Oregon and Tennessee to become a Yellow Jacket. He is among the more highly-touted prospects to select Tech in coach Paul Johnson’s tenure, particularly along the defensive line.

“It was a real good get for us,” defensive line coach Mike Pelton said of Chimedza on Tech’s online broadcast.

Chimedza, from Dacula in Gwinnett County, committed to Tech in the summer, but continued to be pursued by rival coaches intent on flipping him. Particularly as he will enroll early and go through spring practice, he’ll have a chance to play this fall.

“He’s athletic for a big guy,” coach Paul Johnson said. “He’s got good feet. We think he can play inside and he’s also athletic enough to be a defensive end.”
