One of the country’s elite high school players will make his college home at Duke.
R.J. Barrett, considered the No. 1 recruit in the country according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, committed to the Blue Devils on Friday evening. Barrett made the announcement live on Twitter.
It is the third straight year that the Blue Devils have gained a commitment from the country’s top player. Last year, they gained a pledge from Marvin Bagley, a freshman this year. The year prior, it was Harry Giles committing to play for Mike Krzyzewski and Duke, going on to become the 20th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft after one season in Durham.
The Blue Devils now have three five-star recruits in the class of 2018: Pennsylvania small forward Cameron Reddish and Minnesota point guard Tre Jones, brother of former Duke point guard Tyus Jones.
A native of Canada, Barrett currently plays for Montverde Academy in Florida, transferring to the school before his sophomore year.
