The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 63-53 victory over No. 14 Georgia on Sunday at McCamish Pavilion. It was the Lady Jackets second victory over the Lady Bulldogs in their last eight meetings. It was Georgia Tech’s first win over a ranked Georgia since 2010.

Lorela Cubaj led Georgia Tech (3-1) with 13 points. Elizabeth Dixon had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Elizabeth Balogun and Kierra Fletcher also had 10 points each.

Taja Cole and Gabby Connally each had 10 points for Georgia (2-2).

Georgia Tech outscored Georgia by 10 points in the fourth quarter to pull away with the win. The Lady Jackets had a decided advantage at the free-throw line going 18-for-22 while Georgia went 3-for-11.

“I’m really proud of the way we competed today,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “[Lorela] Cubaj kind of struggled in the first half and I challenged her down the stretch in the fourth quarter. I felt like she stepped up and took over the game in the fourth quarter and gave us some momentum on the offensive end. I thought today was a great team win. I thought we shared the basketball extremely well and we got some good minutes from our young players. Anytime you beat Georgia in anything, it’s a great win for our program. We’re really excited about this team and every day, moving forward, just getting better.”
