The Braves plan to celebrate a construction milestone on their new spring-training facility in southwest Florida with a “topping off” ceremony Friday morning.

Although much work remains to be done, the ceremony at the construction site in North Port, Fla., will mark the installation of the last steel beam atop the stadium and signal significant progress on the $125 million project.

The Braves are scheduled to be represented at the event by John Schuerholz, the team’s vice chairman emeritus, and others. Sarasota County and North Port government officials also will attend, along with leaders of the construction team.

Construction began last fall.

The Braves will hold spring training at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex near Orlando for the 21st time next year, then move to the North Port facility for spring training 2020. The Braves’ final spring-training game in 2019 also is scheduled to be played in the new stadium.
