Hawks’ Dedmon suffers ankle injury

Center will be re-evaluated in one week

Hawks center Dewayne Dedmon suffered a left ankle injury, determined to be an avulsion fracture after medical tests including an X-ray and MRI exam.

The injury, which occurred during a workout on Aug. 27, is not considered serious. Dedmon will wear a walking boot and be re-evaluated in a week, according to the team.

An avulsion fracture is an injury where a tendon or ligament attaches to the bone. In the case of an avulsion fracture, the tendon or ligament pulls off a piece of the bone.

Dedmon appeared in 62 games for the Hawks last season, his first with the team after signing a two-year free agent contract. He averaged 10.0 points and 7.9 rebounds in 24.9 minutes. Dedmon picked up his player option for the upcoming season this summer.
