Mike Budenholzer got the band back together – most of it anyway.
The former Hawks and new Bucks head coach will bring five of his six assistant coaches with him from Atlanta to Milwaukee.
Darvin Ham, Taylor Jenkins, Ben Sullivan, Patrick St. Andrews and, as previously reported, Charles Lee will join Budenholzer on his Bucks’ staff. The lone assistant not to join Budenholzer is Chris Jent, who remains with the Hawks under new head coach Lloyd Pierce.
“Great guys. Amazing staff. So glad we can continue together,” Budenholzer said.
Budenholzer and the Hawks mutually agreed to part ways following the season despite the fact he had two years remaining on his contract. Budenholzer was granted permission to interview with other several other teams shortly after the season and talked to the Suns and Knicks, jobs he did not get, before he was hired by the Bucks last month. The former NBA Coach of the Year (2015) was an long-time assistant for the Spurs under Gregg Popovich before taking over the Hawks in 2013.
For Ham, Budenholzer’s lead assistant, it is a return to Milwaukee. As part of his eight-year NBA career, Ham played for the Bucks from 1999-2002.
