The Braves dropped an uneventful 3-0 game to the Phillies on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park.

The victory pulled the Phillies to within a half-game of the National League East lead, held by the Braves. The Braves failed to score one day after 10 runs crossed the plate, including six in the ninth inning.

Takeaways from the game:

1. Mike Foltynewicz was messy early, but managed to give the Braves six innings and allowed one run. The lone error came on a homer to Nick Williams, who barely pushed it over the left-field wall.

Foltynewicz owns a 1.96 ERA with 26 strikeouts in four starts against the Phillies this season.

2. Shane Carle's dominance hit a speed bump in the seventh inning. The 26-year-old had allowed two earned runs in 26 innings before Aaron Altherr's two-run shot. Scott Kingery had reached base before on a bunt single.

“You’re not going to dominate every day,” outfielder Nick Markakis said of his teammate. “He left a slider over the plate, backed up on him. He put a pretty good swing on it and tacked on two runs there.”

3. The Braves were shut out for the third time this season, with each loss coming in the NL East. They were held scoreless April 9 at Washington, May 18 against Miami and Monday.

4. The Braves had two base runners from the fourth inning on: Johan Camargo walked in the seventh, but was caught stealing. Ozzie Albies singled to open the eighth, but was left stranded.

5. Phillies infielder Cesar Hernandez has reached base safely in 25 consecutive games. The Phillies have homered in 16 consecutive games, tied for the second-longest streak in team history (2002, 2006). The Braves will attempt to end both runs Tuesday.
