Streaks are over, but what a run it’s been for Braves’ Freeman

Freeman streaks over: For the first time in five weeks, Freddie Freeman didn’t get a hit Thursday. And for the first time in eight weeks, he didn’t reach base.

Freeman’s 0-for-4 game in a 5-2 win against the Phillies ended his 30-game hitting streak, the longest in the majors this season and longest by a Brave since Dan Uggla’s Atlanta-record 33-gamer in 2011. It also ended his 46-game on-base streak, tied with Jayson Werth for longest in the majors this season and the longest by a Brave since Gary Sheffield’s franchise-record 52-gamer in 2002.

During the 30-game hitting streak, Freeman batted .384 with 43 hits including 11 doubles and seven homers. The Braves were 21-9 in those games.

During his 46-game on-base streak, Freeman had these stunning stats: .390 average with 17 doubles, 15 homers, 45 RBIs, 41 walks, .512 OBP and .768 slugging percentage.

“It was fun, ride it out as long as you can,” he said late Thursday. “But realistically, 30 games is pretty cool. I’ll obviously look back at it after the season, but right now just focus on tomorrow…. I’ve been going pretty well now for about three months. Hopefully this was just a little hiccup and I’ll finish strong the next three games.”

Camargo leads bottom-of-the-order barrage

It says something for how much deeper and balanced this Braves lineup is that the top five spots in their batting order Tuesday night accounted for just three hits, one run and two RBIs in an 11-4 rout against the Blue Jays. The bottom four did the heavy lifting in this one, each having multi-hit games led by third baseman Johan Camargo&rsquo...

What Soroka, manager said about rookie’s Canadian homecoming

TORONTO -- Braves rookie pitcher Mike Soroka made his fifth major league start and his first in his Canadian homeland.  The Calgary right-hander matched career-highs with eight hits and four earned runs allowed in 4 2/3 innings, but did minimize the damage in a few innings and the Braves gave him plenty of defensive and offensive support in an...
