The next step in Ronald Acuna’s rehab process will be Orlando.

Acuna, who participated in his rehab’s most important base-running drills Saturday, will head to the team’s spring training facility when the Braves travel to play Toronto on Tuesday.

“He’ll get all the defensive reps and probably face some live pitching,” manager Brian Snitker said. “They’ll be able to amp it up better with the workouts down there than we can. It’s the perfect scenario for him to go down there as they’re doing their minicamps getting ready to go play.”

The 20-year-old has been on the disabled list since May 27 after suffering a sprained ligament and contusions in his left knee and lower back when he tumbled running through first base in Boston.

The Braves will evaluate Acuna after a few days and determine when and where he’ll begin his rehab assignment.

“He’s not ready to play games,” Snitker said. “All of our instructors are there, they have all the new signs and they’ll be doing all the drills, the baserunning, everything that he needs to prepare his body to go out on a rehab.”

Acuna, the franchise’s consensus No. 1 prospect, has hit .265 with five homers and 13 RBIs through his first 29 games.
