Ronald Acuna’s 25 home runs put him in special company

Ronald Acuna’s accomplishments during his rookie season keep piling up.

Last month, the Braves’ rookie outfielder became the youngest player in history to hit a home run in five consecutive games.

His eight lead-off homers are the franchise record.

On Sunday, Acuna (20 years, 265 days) became the seventh player in baseball history to hit 25 home runs in a single season before turning 21.

Acuna is now tied with former Braves Eddie Mathews and Orlando Cepeda for fifth most on the list of players with 25 homers before their 21st birthday. Al Kaline is in fourth place with 27 in 1955. Tony Conigliaro had 32 in 1965. Frank Robinson sits second on the list with 34 home runs in 1956, while Mel Ott holds the record with 42 home runs as a 20-year-old in 1929.

Eighteen of Acuna’s homers have come since the All-Star break.

Acuna is setting Braves records without even swinging the bat.

Saturday night in Arizona, Acuna became the first Braves player in 110 seasons to draw two intentional walks in the same game before his 21st birthday. Elbie Fletcher, a first baseman with the Boston Braves — at 21 years, 64 days old — was intentionally walked multiple times by Pittsburgh on May 21, 1937.

They lost two...
