Max Fried will start for the Braves against the Cardinals on Saturday, manager Brian Snitker confirmed following Friday’s 5-1 win in St. Louis.

Fried replaces Brandon McCarthy, who was placed on the disabled list with knee tendinitis Thursday.

Fried, 24, was scratched from his scheduled start with Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. He’s appeared in five games for the Braves, making one start, accumulating a 4.09 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 11 innings.

The lefty’s lone start came May 28 against the Mets, when Fried pitched five innings, allowing four hits and one earned run.

Fried will oppose the Cardinals’ Luke Weaver, who’s 4-6 with a 4.59 ERA.
