Matt Kemp was not in the Braves’ lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Marlins. The veteran left Wednesday’s game against the Nationals with left hamstring tightness.
“He’s day-to-day,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “According to (Jeff Porter, the Braves’ head athletic trainer), strength is good. Tweaked it, tightness, so we’ll just kind of get him out here and see where he’s at today before we go, but it’ll be a day-to-day thing for a while.
“It bit him a little bit more in Pittsburgh. I think it was more precautionary (leaving game in Washington). He felt it from second to third on that over-throw.”
Snitker doesn’t expect a DL stint for Kemp, but wouldn’t rule it out.
“As of right now, no,” he said “Am I 100 percent sure? No. The next day or two will probably tell us more about that. So we’ll hope.”
Kemp has a history of hamstring issues, most recently going on the DL in April with a right hamstring strain.
With Freddie Freeman sidelined, Kemp has been the foundation of the Braves' offense. He ranks sixth in the National League in batting average (.327), tied for third in doubles (19) and 17th in OPS (.922) — sitting between Kris Bryant and Nolan Arenado.
In his past 31 games, Kemp has hit .333 (31-for-123). He’s had 15 extra-base hits in that time, helping the Braves to a 16-15 record (with all but three played without Freeman).
Kemp was receiving treatment and not available for comment.
