Four key Braves prospects batting under .200 for Gwinnett

Matt Wisler retired 15 batters in a row in one stretch but the Gwinnett Stripers lost 4-2 to the Rochester Red Wings Saturday night at Coolray Field.

Wisler (0-1) went seven innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs. He walked one and struck out eight.

Gwinnett’s hitters are off to a slow start this season.  Seven hitters in Saturday’s lineup have averages under .200. Among them, Ronald Acuna is batting .152, Johan Camargo .158, Rio Ruiz .172, and Dustin Peterson .185.

Sean Kazmar Jr. was one bright spot. When he doubled in the fifth, it gave him 438 hits in his 467 games, passing Jose Constanza (2011-14) for most in club history.

Gwinnett is 2-6.

They’re a half-game out of first place in the National...

Mike Foltynewicz channels quiet strength en route to All-Star game

When things get tough, Mike Foltynewicz glances at his right hand and sees a jet tattooed on his finger. Foltynewicz grew notorious for what some would call implosions on the mound. If a call didn’t go his way, if a break or two went against him, there were times Foltynewicz struggled to recover. When the Braves acquired him from the Astros,...

Young All-Star Ozzie Albies making impression around baseball

Ozzie Albies stepped on to the red carpet as a 21-year-old All-Star. The Braves second baseman started in the Futures game just three years ago. He’s a reserve for the National League All-Stars in Washington, and finished as the second-leading vote-getter among NL second baseman (Javy Baez, Cubs). “It’s been great,” Albies said...
