Braves quotes after winning series opener vs. Padres

Anibal Sanchez tossed 7-shutout innings to earn his first career win over the Padres

The Braves topped the Padres at SunTrust Park on Thursday, 4-2, marking their third win in three tries during this homestand.

Here’s what the Braves said afterwards:

Manager Brian Snitker:

On Anibal Sanchez, who pitched seven shut-out innings:

“He looks great to me. That fastball’s got some hop on it. Pitchability and his feel for pitching, it’s fun to watch him. … He just knows what he’s doing. He has a lot of confidence in himself. He never gives in. He attacks hitters. His command’s been great. He’s been a welcomed guy here, that’s for sure.”

On Ender Inciarte’s improved play of late:

“He was good. He’s swinging the bat, the last week’s that’s been gradually coming. We could sure use him. We know what he’s capable of and it’s been a rough go for him so far. Maybe these last few games, we’ve done the right thing to get him going.”

On the rotation:

“Really good. It’s just been real solid and consistent, each guy. Not trying to do too much, staying pitch-to-pitch. They know if they give these guys a chance and keep them in the game, good things might happen.”

Starter Anibal Sanchez:

On his start:

“I feel good on the mound. … Prepared my game with Flowers earlier today. We had a good gameplan for today.”

On his confidence:

“Every time you can have a good game, you feel good. Right now, I’m prepared. I’m really focused on the mound and on what I’m going to do in the games. I just try to, right now, enjoy what I’m doing and like I said the other day, I just want to (pitch) a really good game and help the team win.”

Outfielder Ender Inciarte:

On his night (he doubled and homered):

“I’m just trying to help the team, do my best to help the team score runs. We have a pretty good offense. … I’m glad I was able to help the team tonight.”

On Sanchez:

“Not only tonight, he’s been very consistent since he got here for us. He’s a veteran. He has work ethic. He knows what he’s doing. He just makes a great gameplan and tries to do the best he can. He’s been big for us.”

Catcher Tyler Flowers:

On Sanchez:

“He’s been really good. Even the first one he threw better than the line ended up being. From then on, he’s been a man on a mission, executing his pitches. He can move it every direction, every quadrant. He mixes in hitting every quadrant. So as a hitter, you feel like you have a lot to cover.”

On his questionable hit by pitch:

“I told the umpire I didn’t think it hit me. The more I thought about it sitting there, then seeing the replay, I know it hit something. It might’ve been me. I don’t know. I wear so many guards and stuff, it might would’ve hit one of those.”
