Atlanta United strikers Patrick Okonkwo and Gordon Wild are training with Charleston and should be joining the USL team on loan. Both players can be recalled by the Five Stripes, if needed.
Okonkwo, 19, is one of five Homegrown Signings on Atlanta United, along with Andrew Carleton, Chris Goslin, George Bello and Lagos Kunga.
A native of Lagos, Nigeria, Okonkwo made three appearances for the Battery last season when the team was Atlanta United’s USL affiliate.
Wild, a native of Germany, was selected in the second round of the MLS SuperDraft in January after a standout career at the University of Maryland.
The decision to send both to the Battery may be a result of the depth the team has at striker with Romario Williams and Jon Gallagher competing for minutes behind Josef Martinez.
Atlanta United started its own USL affiliate, Atlanta United 2, that will begin play this season. It has announced eight players, including one striker.
USL teams opened training camp on Monday.
Additionally, fourth-round selection Paul Christensen, a goalkeeper, is training with Atlanta United 2.
