Atlanta United 2, Orlando City 1: Man of the match

My choice for Atlanta United’s man of the match from Sunday’s 2-1 win against Orlando City:

GREG GARZA

Fullback

Why? His run into the penalty box forced Orlando City’s Cristian Higuita to pull him down, which resulted in a penalty kick that was converted by Josef Martinez for the game’s first goal.

Garza then added an assist on Ezequiel Barco’s goal that gave Atlanta United a 2-0 lead. It was Garza’s third assist this season.

Garza finished with two chances created and tied for the team lead with four tackles.

Martino, Atlanta United critical of MLS officiating
Martino, Atlanta United critical of MLS officiating

Atlanta United manager Gerardo Martino’s right leg was practically vibrating in agitation under the table as he said some of the 800 words focused on the officiating in Sunday’s 3-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Martino has never held back from criticizing the officials in his 47 regular season games in charge...

Atlanta United gored by New York Red Bulls

More controversial officiating combined with some poor defending resulted in Atlanta United falling to New York Red Bulls 3-1 on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. In a battle of early MLS MVP candidates, New York’s Bradley Wright-Phillips scored two goals, and played a role in another, to Miguel Almiron’s none to hand the Five Stripes their...

Atlanta United’s Almiron’s MVP candidacy began a year ago

Atlanta United’s Miguel Almiron is the front-runner to be named the MVP of MLS this season. “Absolutely, absolutely,” Atlanta United manager Gerardo Martino said. Though man-marked at least, double-teamed typically, the Paraguayan speedster is a black-and-red blur, running away from the added attention to notch six goals...

Atlanta United’s McCann, Escobar out for NYRB

Neither Chris McCann nor Franco Escobar will be eligible for Atlanta United’s 18 for Sunday’s game against New York Red Bulls at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. McCann is recovering from a hamstring strain sustained before the Chicago game two weeks ago. Escobar is recovering from a chest injury sustained during that game. McCann resumed individual...

What Atlanta United said after 2-1 win over Orlando City

What Atlanta United said following a 2-1 win over Orlando City on Sunday: On the six points in a difficult stretch of games: “It could have been nine points in a week if in the other game we had a little better officiating and if we had played 11 on 11." On Miles Robinson’s second start: “As I said after the LAFC game, he&rsquo...
