Atlanta United’s Martinez may have broken nose

Atlanta United’s Josef Martinez may have suffered a broken nose in the first half of Wednesday’s 2-0 win against Columbus at MAPFRE Stadium.

Martinez, after scoring his league-leading 14th goal in the 30th minute in the first half, was subbed off at halftime because he couldn’t breathe, according to manager Gerardo Martino.

Martinez and Columbus’ Artur knocked heads on the goal. Trainers examined Martinez for several minutes. He returned to the game.

Martino said they hope to know more on the extent of Martinez’s injury in the coming days. Atlanta United is off until it hosts Chicago in the fifth round of the U.S. Open Cup on June 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

It was the second time in as many games that Atlanta United was forced to sub off one of its standout players. Martinez’s leaving followed Miguel Almiron being forced off at halftime of last week’s game at NYCFC with a shoulder injury. He started Wednesday’s game.

Arkansas lays down a Texas-sized whupping on Horns at College World Series

With apologies to the science of geology, baseball is also just about pressure and time. That’s all it takes, really: pressure and time. That and a big dadgum hit. Arkansas advanced to the second round of the College World Series on Sunday by following the science. The Razorbacks put a slow burn on Texas before the avalanche...

Texas-sized letdown: Longhorns lose in weather-delayed CWS opener

Arkansas turned the tables on Texas all season. The Razorbacks did it again on Sunday. U.S. Open even better second time around for Koepka

Brooks Koepka is U.S. Open champion. Repeat, Brooks Koepka is U.S. Open champion. Just in case you didn’t get the message the first time, when Koepka went to Erin Hills in Wisconsin in 2017 and bludgeoned the Open field, he showed up at Shinnecock Hills Sunday and, in a little different method, did it all over again. OK, we get it.  Mr....
