An Atlanta police officer is OK after his patrol car crashed into a power pole on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard. The accident knocked out power to more than 1,000 people early Wednesday.

An Atlanta police officer was injured early Wednesday when his patrol car spun out, crashed into a power pole and went down a wooded embankment.

The officer was responding to a stolen vehicle call when he “lost traction while traveling along the curve on Joseph E. Boone near Westchester Boulevard and left the roadway,” Atlanta police Officer Donald Hannah said.

The incident occurred about 3:30 a.m., when roads were wet from morning showers.

At one point, the crash left more than 1,000 people without power and blocked all of Joseph E. Boone Boulevard, Channel 2 Action News reported.

By 7:50 a.m., power was restored to the area, according to a Georgia Power outage map.

The officer’s patrol car was removed from the scene just after 8 a.m.

According to MARTA spokeswoman Stephany Fisher, “bus route 51 is experiencing a delay because of the crash and power lines down. A bus supervisor is on site to help assess the situation and find the best alternate route.”
