Church members vote to oust Ga. pastor who banned 103-year-old member

The fight continues between a pastor who recently banned a 103-year-old woman from a church in Elberton and church members who want to oust him.

The Rev. Tim Mattox, pastor of Mount Grove Baptist Church, received national attention after he banned Genora H. Biggs, who had attended the church for 92 years. Police were called to the church last month when the centenarian ignored the pastor and showed up for service despite being asked not to return.

On Sunday, members of the church who disagreed with his stewardship voted to fire Mattox as pastor, but he has ignored that vote.

The church members who voted to fire Mattox issued him a “Letter of Termination” and ordered him to remove his property from the church, according to a report in the Athens Banner-Herald.

On Tuesday he obtained restraining orders against the grandson of Biggs and a former church secretary, according to the Banner-Herald.

A hearing is scheduled in court for Oct. 5.
