Indiana, on Amazon’s short list, declares hate-crimes legislation dead for year

The Washington Post is reporting that Indiana — a state joining Georgia on a short list of contenders for Amazon's second headquarters — has declared dead for the year a bill targeting crimes motivated by bias. Campus gun law raises some concerns

The campus newspaper at Savannah State University says the state's new campus gun law has some people wondering whether there will be an increase in illegal gun handling. It quotes LaDonna Clark, a detective, as saying: "The main problem that I've encountered in relation to the campus carry weapons law is that students, and non-students, are either boldly disregarding the stipulations of this law or are not fully educating themselves on the proper locations in which they are allowed to carry." The law took effect in July.

Deal among nation’s more popular governors, poll finds

The Advocate.com, based in Baton Rouge, La., reports that a new national poll shows Louisiana's John Bel Edwards and Georgia's Nathan Deal tied for the nation's 14th-most-popular governor. The results come from Morning Consult, a media and technology company that regularly ranks governors based on polling in all 50 states. Edwards, a Democrat, is in his first term as governor, and Deal, a Republican, is winding down his second and final term. Morning Consult surveyed 253,393 registered voters online from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, asking about views of their state's governor.
