A central Georgia school leader is a finalist for the top honor from the national association for superintendents.
AASA, The School Superintendents Association, included Curtis Jones Jr., of the Bibb County School District, among four finalists for its 2019 U.S. superintendent of the year.
“The talented individuals we are honoring today exemplify what their leadership means to the communities and students they serve,” Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, AASA, said in a statement issued Monday.
Jones manages a district with about three dozen schools and 24,000 students in and around Macon.
The other three candidates run school districts in Indianapolis, San Antonio and Meridian, Ohio. The winner will be announced at AASA’s national conference in mid-February in Los Angeles.
Past Georgia honorees include Beverly Hall, the former Atlanta Public Schools superintendent, who won in 2009.
