A house fire in Fayette County left one resident in serious condition Thursday, officials said.
Fayette County fire said in a Facebook post that the person was rescued from a bedroom in the rear of the home and flown by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital.
The cause of the blaze on Ga. 54 is under investigation.
There was heavy smoke and fire showing when crews arrived at the one-story house about 1 p.m.
The eastbound lanes of Ga. 54 were blocked from McElroy Road and Simpson Road due to the fire, according to a Facebook post from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Officials urged drivers to use alternate routes.
